The Prom Venue
Most school proms are held in the school hall, but if you really want to go to town, and you will be selling lots of tickets, you could consider hiring a venue for the evening. Here is a checklist of things to consider when choosing a hired venue.
- How many people can it hold?
- Do they allow food and drink on the premises?
- Is there a kitchen area to store buffet food before serving?
- How do they feel about loud music?
- Are there adequate toilet facilities for the number of guests?
- Is there parking?
- Is there a good place for people to be dropped off in their special prom transport?
- Is it close to where everyone lives?
- Are there any decoration restrictions?
- Do they have a DJ that you have to hire? (Some venues only allow you to have their own DJ).
- Does the venue have adequate public liability insurance?
- Does it meet basic health and safety requirements? e.g. fire exits, fire extinguishers etc.
A good starting point is looking at venues that already hold wedding receptions as they are used to having large parties with lots of guests and all the trappings.
If you are planning to have a themed prom, the venue can really help to create the right atmosphere. Keep your theme in mind when considering venues: if you are going for a vintage 1920’s themed prom, an ultra-modern venue may break the mood.
