Prom Entertainment
It’s easy to think that when the dance floor and music is sorted out, that’s the end of the entertainment arrangements, but we’ll let you into a secret:
Music is not enough to keep people entertained.
The reality of big events like proms and black tie balls is that there are times in the evening when you’ve talked to everyone you want to, eaten all the food you want to, and you want a break from dancing (or you’re not into dancing anyway.) Suddenly, it can (dare it be said?) get a bit… boring.
As prom organisers, it’s up to you to make sure that the evening is as enjoyable as possible for everyone, and arranging entertainment for throughout the evening is a great way to do this. Prom entertainment isn’t about making people sit still and watch something; the best entertainment is quick, easy to dip in and out of and doesn’t require a fixed audience.
Here are our five favourite prom entertainment ideas:
Casino
If you have the budget, hiring a mobile casino company to come in is a great idea – everyone can be given a set of tokens on arrival to play with that night. All the thrill of the casino without the debt of a real one!
Magician
Forget top hats and rabbits – we’re talking about the coolest kinds of magicians: ones that walk around the room and do up-close tricks for one or two people or a small group at a time. Just be sure that you ask potential magicians whether they
can do this kind of magic as it’s very different to stage performances.
Balloon artists
Not just for kids these days; balloon artists are often more popular with the adults at weddings than the children. Top tip: make sure they know how to make balloon swords – hours of fun.
Jugglers and acrobats
Great to watch and talk about, it’s like bringing the London south bank on a summer’s day into your prom night.
Caricature artists
These are always a hit and the best ones produce great sketches in only a few minutes. You could arrange to pay a flat fee for the evening, or leave it to the artist to charge a fee per sketch. If you arrange the later, you need to make guests aware that they need to bring a bit of money for the evening (that might not be popular!)
