Personal Prom Fundraising
There’s no getting away from it; having a school prom is expensive, and if you want it to be as special as the students are hoping, it’s unlikely that an affordable ticket price will be enough to cover the costs.
This is why fundraising is such a fundamental part of the run up to a prom, and needs to be planned as far in advance as possible. The sooner you can start raising money, the more excited people will get, and you’ll be able to space out fundraising events in order to get the most benefit. If fundraising events are bunched up towards the end, not only will you be risking not being able to pay suppliers in enough time, but people will get fed up of reaching into their pockets, especially when they are buying tickets at the same time!
There are some golden rules when organising fund raising events:
- Advertise well in advance, with reminders on the run up to the event
- Charge low admission fees to ticketed events to increase sales
- Be clear that profits and proceeds are going to the school prom fund
- Make sure the prom committee puts in the hard work so that teachers and parents only have to do the minimum – then they are more likely to be available when it really counts
- Keep track of money spent on fundraising events and profits made very closely – you may want to repeat some of the events the following term so knowing which raised the most is invaluable.
